Unity Blender Animation

Say I made an animated 3D model of a human ( Basic animations ex: running) ; then I made two-hand and one-hand weapons ( swords ).

How would I go about animating the sway of the weapon in the human's hands?
How would I use this to make weapon switching visible?

I am confused when it comes to the idea of animating melee weapons. Are they attached to the hand as it is animated and automatically follow its animation? or does the weapon have to be timed individually? or does it not only have to...
